Rashes are forms of response from skin. For babies, it’s considered to be normal for them having skin rashes. Their skin needs to adjust itself with their environment. The causes of skin rashes on babies can be drug reaction, an infection, or an allergy reaction. If your babies are suffering from skin rashes, it’s better for you to check whether it’s because of flea bites, direct contact with other adults or children whom are ill, antibiotic that is recently used, environment, or prior immunizations.
Even though most skin rashes will disappear by themselves, but you still need to be aware. Certain skin rash indicates warning sign of meningitis. Babies or young children with meningitis may have pale, blotchy skin, and a red rash. If there’s a glass that is rolled over it, it doesn’t fade away.
Kinds of Skin Rashes on Babies
There are many kinds of skin rashes on babies. Skin rashes that are caused by bacteria are impetigo and scarlet fever. Meanwhile, skin rashes that are caused by viral are chickenpox (Varicella), measles, rubella (German measles or “Three-Day Measles”), Fifth disease (slapped cheeks disease), and many more. There are also skin rashes that are caused by fungal or parasites, such as scabies, ringworm, and athletes foot on young children.
Rashes in the newborn babies are milia, cradle cap, baby acne, miliaria, Erythema Toxicum, Candidal Rash (yeast Infection), Seborrheic Dermatitis, and diaper rash. Eczema will cause your babies skin to be itchy, red, dry, and cracked. It begins with red, itchy rash on their face, scalp, and body. If your babies are influenced by atopic eczema, the most general type of eczema, it can continue to adulthood. On adults, the atopic eczema will expand in areas with folds, such as behind the knees or in the front of elbows. Meanwhile, if there are under six months babies who suffer from eczema, it’s usually caused by allergies to milk and egg. Using creams and ointments will help to ease the symptoms.
Baby acne is also can be called as neonatal acne. It can be found in babies’ nose, cheeks, and forehead during a month of their birth. In order to increase the appearance of your babies’ skin, you should wash their face with water and mild soap. However, never use acne medicines for adults because they will damage your babies’ skin and make the acne worse. If the acnes develop after three months of age, it could be harmful and need medical treatment.
If your babies’ diaper areas become irritated, usually diaper rash occurs. Sometimes it can be caused by fungal infection, but it’s also caused by long exposure to urine or stool. You can avoid diaper rash by keeping your babies’ skin clean and dry. You also can use barrier cream if you need to. If your babies’ diaper rash is caused by fungal infection, using antifungal cream can be necessary.
Treatments for Skin Rashes on Babies
Skin rashes on babies that are caused by bacteria can be treated with vaccines. For chickenpox, there’s a vaccine that can prevent the disease, it’s called the “varicella vaccine”. Your doctors can prescribe you treatment to reduce the itchiness. You also need to go to your doctors immediately if chickenpox influences the cornea. In order to prevent your children from measles, there is a measles vaccine that is also part of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella). This vaccine also helps you preventing Rubella from your children.
